In Development: Castle Story

On the 24th of December, a Canadian indie team called Sauropod Studio gave us all a Christmas present in the form of a demo video. This video, although kind of long, is really exciting. The video, which was posted on youtube, is a demonstration of an early build of a game called Castle Story, Castle Story is not a very original name but the game looks brilliant. The premise of the Castle Story is to build a castle brick by brick, then defend it from creatures and other players. The game is built on the popular Unity engine and development environment, it features the same kind of sandbox environment as Minecraft, but it’s amazing looking with smooth landscape textures. It’s controlled from a third-person perspective with point-and-click controls; players use the mouse to issue commands to yellow minion characters called “Bricktrons” which fight enemies, gather resources, and build your castle.

It could steal a whole lot of attention from Mojang’s Minecraft

At this stage there isn’t much more to say. The teams website is still under construction, the only blog post reads, “Thanks for being patient while we get our s*** together.” This said, the homepage is the place to be as it has some lovable images of armed Bricktrons ready to fight for their lives.

So Castle Story is the first game of 2012 which I will be keeping an eye on, intently waiting for a alpha or the release.
